TRANSITIONAL HOUSING STAGES

We encourage you to apply to the stage that best matches your current needs, lifestyle, and current circumstances. Fully completed applications submitted with required documentation will be given priority.

All documentation we request is based on Niagara Regional Housing requirements to determine and confirm eligibility. If you do not meet the eligibility requirements, we are not able to accept your application into our transitional housing programming.

Please Note: Applications expire after 6 months of submission. If you are not contacted before then, please resubmit a new application.

Eligibility Requirements for both Stages:

  • MUST be approved by/ on the waitlist for Niagara Regional Housing‍

  • Must be willing to learn new skills and engage with an advocate‍

  • Must be able to provide documentation of proof of income, notice of assessment, and Ontario Works or ODSP (if your receive them)

  • Must be 16 years or older, and female or gender-diverse identifying (Stage 1)

  • Must be in good standing with Homelessness Shelter System - not on a Level 5 restriction

  • Must be able to provide ID (for Stage 2: applies for everyone listed on the application)

  • Must have completed most recent year of taxes

  • Must abstain from substance use while in YWCA’s transitional housing

Stage One would fit best if…

This program is right for you if you are capable of living independently, but still need support and advocacy. Stage One operates as a subsidized women and gender-diverse residence. Designed to help support you and provide assistance in working towards your established goals, with the goal of transitioning into successful independent housing. An advocate is available Monday- Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

  • You are 90 days substance free

  • You are able to set both long and short term goals, and work with an advocate towards your goals on a weekly basis

  • You are single and do not have any children in your care (children are not able to join you in the program)

Stage Two would fit best if…

This program is right for you if you are capable of living independently, but need support in maintaining housing stability. Stage Two is partnered with the Niagara Region and landlords across the region, providing a stable and long-term housing solution for you while you build the skills and resources needed for long-term independence.

  • You are one year substance free

  • You are able to set both long and short term goals, and work with an advocate towards your goals on a monthly basis

  • If you have a partner or children in your care and living with you
