TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
We provide safe, subsidized transitional housing across the entire Niagara region.
Through their transition, clients work with skilled staff to set goals that will lead to more independence. The YW also provides residents with skills development training, support, goal setting, advocacy, and referrals to other programs and services that might be of benefit.
On-Site Supported Transitional Housing
Operates out of the King St. & Culp St. Shelters
24/7 support from team advocates, and a dedicated caseworker Monday-Friday
Skill Development Programs include coping skills, self esteem improvement and goal setting
Clients can stay in On-Site Housing for up to a year
Stage 1 Supported Transitional Housing
Operates as a fully subsidized Women and Gender-Diverse Individuals Residence
For women and gender-diverse individuals capable of living independently but still needing advocacy and support
An advocate is on duty Monday – Friday, from 9-5 p.m.
Skill Development Programs include resume building, job searching skills, apartment hunting skills, budgeting, advanced goal setting and other self esteem building programs
Clients can stay in Supported Transitional Housing for 1-3 years
Stage 2 Off-Site Supported Transitional Housing
(Offered through partnerships with the Niagara Region and local landlords)
Approximately 65 apartments throughout the Niagara region
For clients ready to live independently while continuing to work towards their established goals
On going support available from a Support Worker monthly
Support Workers help clients with setting and reaching goals
Depending on individual needs and eligibility, participants may have the opportunity to extend housing support for up to 3 years
Skill Development programs are available to anybody in the program to support personal growth, independent living, and long-term success

The YW’s transitional housing program maintains a waiting list of clients in need of affordable housing. We are looking for landlords who are willing to work with us to provide rental housing for these individuals and families.
When you lease your property to us you will have a secure tenancy with secured rent being paid directly to you, by the YW, according to the tenancy agreement. The lease between the YW and the landlord is retained in a traditional landlord-tenant relationship. Even if a client becomes ineligible to participate in the housing program or if the apartment is vacant, we still pay the negotiated rent as agreed in the lease.
Our current landlords enjoy peace of mind and cost savings with reduced advertising and vacancy costs, as well as saving valuable time. If you are interested in working with us through our landlord program please contact us.

RENT IS GUARANTEED
The YWCA assumes the lease on behalf of the program participants, ensuring rent is paid on time, consistently.
MONTHLY CHECKS
Have a peace of mind knowing your unit is being checked monthly by the YWCA Niagara Region employee assigned to the program participant.
LONG-TERM STABILITY TENANTS
Even after the 3 year program has concluded, program participants can take on the lease as their own resulting in lower turnover rates.
PROVIDING FUTURES
Many of our clients are single mothers and families looking for a safe and affordable place to raise their children instead of on the street or an unsafe environment.
DAMAGES ARE PAID FOR
Any damages incurred by the program participant will be covered by the YWCA Niagara Region.
