Friday Find: HOLY GUACAMOLE!

Happy Friday everyone! I was listening to the radio this morning when I heard this hilarious story about guacamole. I myself am a HUGE guacamole fan, and yes I will pay extra for it when I’m out at a restaurant. I also love making it at home; I either make a really simple version (just avocados, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper, and lime juice) or actually add diced tomatoes, garlic, onions and cilantro. You really can’t go wrong. Or can you?!

 

Well, apparently you can! The New York Times posted to Twitter a guacamole recipe … that included peas. Yes, peas. Guacamole with peas?! I don’t know, it sounded weird to me — and apparently I’m not the only one! The New York Times received HUGE outrage online in response to their ‘pea post’, and even President Obama spoke up tweeting:

You must read the articles about the guacamole-pea outrage (here’s one about how some people are defending the pea addition). It’s a great Friday Find and a great reminder that you should probably make guacamole tonight (with or without peas, that’s up to you!).

Often, I find that things either take too long to make when I’m hungry NOW, or the portions are just too big. I shy away from making large portioned dishes because then I have to worry about finishing up the rest of it before it goes bad. Other than that, I also get bored very easily if I’m eating the same food day in and day out… which is dangerous for my wallet because that makes me want to go out and buy food!

While I was on break during my class, I came across a delicious page on Buzzfeed that had recipes for breakfasts, snacks, dinners, and desserts. The recipes are really easy to follow, quick, and we have most of the ingredients on hand already! Just look at this delicious chocolate peanut butter mug cake!

Whether it’s completing school assignments and readings, attending classes, working, volunteering, or anything else you can think of… let’s face it, we’re all busy!

It’s tough to always have meals planned out, cooked, and ready to go when we’re hungry. Thankfully, I found this wonderful blog with “Chicken Dump” recipes. It’s simple: combine the ingredients in a re-sealable bag, freeze, defrost, and bake (or you can even toss it in the crock-pot). Yup, that’s it!  It’s been such a great way for me to have healthy and delicious meals at the end of the day! These recipes satisfy all spectrum of taste buds because they are so unique.
