Relief Women’s Advocate

40 hours per month guaranteed & on call basis

Responsibilities:

  • The Relief Women’s Advocate will report to the Operations Manager
  • Provide support and assistance to women and children living in the Emergency Shelter
  • Advise the Operations Manager on concerns as required
  • Assist the Operations Manager in the overall operation of a 24 hour shelter
  • Assist with the answering of phones and monitoring of security systems after business hours as needed
  • Work safely at all times and to report any workplace hazards on a timely fashion
  • Report promptly to the Operations Manager any suspected health or safety issues that could compromise the safety of residents or other staff

 Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in human or social services or equivalent combination or education and experience
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of the following issues:  Homelessness, Woman Abuse, Addictions, Mental Health Issues and Women’s Issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Confident decision maker and problem solver with demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to intervene in a crisis situation
  • Ability to multi task and work in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with a team
